What is it about hats? Everybody seems to love them. And they especially seem to love them when they sport some cool embroidery. It might be a message or a logo or a team name or just an image out of somebody’s creative imagination. But when it shows up on the front of a hat, it’s always in your face. It’s often the first thing people see when you meet them, so you want it to say the right thing about you.
Rival Screen Printing loves hats, too. And embroidering them with colorful, creative stuff is one of the joys of being in the business. It’s amazing how often the end result is even better than expected.
Embroidery can work great on just about any kind of hat. What’s important is the quality of the design and the embroidering. The embroidery doesn’t even have to be part of the hat itself. It can be a patch that’s permanently attached or that can be put on and taken off when the time is right.
Some people are surprised by how much space is available on, say, a snap-back hat for embroidery. You have as much as 5.5” x 2.5” to work with, so you can say quite a lot, if that’s your wish.
Within the space you have available on a hat, the possibilities are virtually unlimited. Are you concerned about colors? Embroidery thread is available in a wide range of hues, so you can go a little crazy with color and still get what your design calls for. The same holds for shapes. As long as your design fits the space, your design—not some rule—calls the shots.
Speaking of design, Rival can help with that. You can tell a Rival designer what you’re looking for and turn the execution over, or you can come in with a finished design and see if it can be tweaked to be greater yet.
Now, about those patches. They can be a great alternative to regular embroidery whether you want something permanent or removable. You can sew them on or choose a backing that lets you take them off and put them back on. The backings you have to pick from include:
• Tape—works best for situations where you need something fast and don’t expect to use it very often
• Velcro—a more permanent solution when you need to remove patches often
• Plastic—helps patches fight wear and tear so they last longer under heavy use
If you’re wondering what kind of hat will work best for you, Rival can help. Even if you think you’ve made up your mind, you might find that a standard trucker hat, for example, isn’t the right choice, or you might just confirm your thinking. Either way, at least you’ll have explored all the options.
